Miele Triflex HX1 Pro in the test: bang in the leaderboard

Miele celebrates a mighty debut: the German company jumps onto the cordless vacuum train quite late, while the British competitor Dyson does it classic vacuum cleaner business has already given up completely. But the wait seems to have been worth it, because the Miele Triflex HX1 Pro is at the top with a significant buffer at the time of the test our best list .

The obvious highlight is the 3-in-1 function: you can use the motor as a hand-held vacuum cleaner, attach it directly above the floor nozzle or hold it Dyson-style with a long handpiece. The conversion works quickly and easily, with a little practice it only takes a few seconds.

For the measurements in this test, the engine was located directly above the floor nozzle. In this mode, the vacuum cleaner has the most operating advantages, which is why we see it as the default setting. On the other hand, if the motor is in the handpiece, it is much easier to get under deep furniture.

The conversion between the modes requires only a few simple steps. However, you always have to store some part in between. Picture: CHIP / Rian Voß

Which mode for which purpose?

Usually the Triflex suction cup should be used in “belly” mode. If the engine is located directly above the nozzle, the center of gravity is low. The vacuum cleaner, which weighs almost four kilograms, weighs just one kilogram. It remains maneuverable when vacuuming – when you navigate around corners, the wheels do not turn sideways, but the nozzle slides where you want them. It is also nice that the Triflex can stand by itself in this mode. You don't have to take it to the station for a break, balance it against the wall or lay it on the floor.

With a few button presses and a few simple steps, the motor can also be inserted Move handpiece. As a result, you hold 2.1 kg in your fingers at once and the suction cup is too top-heavy to lock in the stand mode. In this variant, you can bend the suction cup more, since the motor is no longer in the way. So you can get well under furniture.

Finally, you can also take the motor with you as a hand-held vacuum cleaner. This is good for car upholstery or furniture. However, the Triflex HX1 is not ideal for continuous use as a hand vacuum, as it is a bit too heavy.

The equipment with various charging and storage options is extensive. Picture: CHIP / Rian Voß

Operation without quirks

The overall operating concept is well thought out. You have clear power levels on the handle with a slider. The frontal LED illuminates dark corners. You can unlock the relatively small container (0.5 liters) by turning the cap smoothly. If you turn the ring even further, the trap door opens and the dirt gushes out of the container. Since you can hold the container far into the trash can, this process is even quite hygienic for a bagless vacuum cleaner. In our tests, in which we soak up tons of quartz sand, stray grains also never caused mechanisms to jam – that we also know differently .

With the most expensive variant, almost the entire range of storage options is available. You can either place the vacuum anywhere and charge it by cable. You can also mount a bracket on the wall and insert the charging cable there. You also get a removable battery with a separate charging station. This covers all usage preferences.

Strong at every level

In the suction test, the Miele Triflex HX1 is not the strongest model, but it is close. At the highest level, he sucks 88 percent of the distributed test dust from the carpet , 44 Percent from a deep joint and the typical 100 percent of hard floor. The battery holds 15 minutes through – that sounds like little, but is quite persistent in comparison to the performance.

It looks different with the minimum suction level : Here the battery is only weak 36 minutes through. This is okay, especially if you have a variant with a removable battery. Of the Dyson V 11 comes with a running time of just under an hour and a half. After all, the Miele Triflex at the lowest suction level is anything but weak: With 19 Percentage of dust in the deep joint is one of the best values, also for carpets (69 percent) and hard floors (52 percent) he does very well. It remains significantly quieter than many similarly strong competitors.

The vacuum cleaner also offers flooring detection and automatically controls the power. The effect is quite subtle and not as dramatic as with the Dyson V 11.

Price estimation

The variant we tested, Miele Triflex HX1 Pro (SMML 03), is one of the most expensive models – with round 730 Euro not only among the Triflex devices, but in the entire leaderboard . However, you get the device with less equipment, especially weaker batteries, already from 500 Euro. This is still a lot of money for a cordless vacuum, but not an absurd amount. In our leaderboard the average prices are 300 to 400 Euro.
