Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon G7 review: ideal for working
At first glance, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon G7 looks rather inconspicuous, but it is excellently processed and looks very classy , With his 14 – inch screen it is still relatively compact. Above all, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G7 is light as a feather: it weighs just 1.1 kilograms – an ideal work notebook for on the go. This featherweight is achieved, among other things, by the eponymous carbon: woven carbon fibers make the plastic housing light and yet unbreakable. However, the characteristic honeycomb structure is only visible on the housing cover of the models with a 4K display. This is a pure design element, because our test device with a Full HD display also has a housing made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), but the surface is completely black. The overall impression of the notebook is still great: it is stable and of high quality.
Lenovo also proves its class with the input options. The keyboard works flawlessly and offers a balanced balance between stroke and counter pressure. The individual keys respond with a gentle click – a first-class keyboard. The same applies to the multi-touchpad as well as to the pointing stick and the TrackPoint. The movements are carried out precisely and the mouse buttons trigger exactly. It's fun to work with the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon G7.

Great performance, deductions in the equipment
Lenovo sets the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G7 with the Intel Core i7 – 8565 U on a processor of the Whiskey Lake generation. The four-core works with a clock frequency of 1 by default. 800 MHz and comes to fleet 4 in Turbo Boost. 600 MHz. As with the ThinkPad X1 Yoga G4 so Lenovo has also made a point of keeping the noise level very low with this model. However, this has a somewhat negative impact on the performance, because in our benchmarks the Carbon G7 is sometimes a bit slower than the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G6 . Everyday performance is still very good.
Lenovo does not have a dedicated one Graphics card and relies on the processor chip Intel UHD Graphics 620. This offers enough performance for office applications, video streaming and surfing the Internet.
In addition, the notebook is equipped with 16 GByte DDR3 – 2133 RAM memory and one 512 GByte-sized M.2 SSD equipped. No bottlenecks should occur here in the future either. Not even if you are looking for future Windows 10 – Updates always have to reserve a few GBytes.
The notebook has four USB 3.1 ports, two of which have a Thunderbolt 3 feature and two others of USB 3.1 type A. You can connect an external monitor via HDMI 1.4 and there is a headphone and microphone port for headsets. An Ethernet LAN adapter is also included in the scope of delivery, with the help of which you can establish a Gigabit Ethernet connection. The device supports the WLAN – 802. 11 – ac -Standard and Bluetooth 5.0, so you can easily pair external devices such as headsets or keyboards with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G7. However, you have to do without a memory card reader, which Lenovo has saved in comparison to the previous version in the current generation.
The entire package is provided by a fingerprint sensor, a webcam with 720 p-HD resolution and infrared feature, Dolby Atmos speakers and four 360 – far-field microphones completed.
Excellent battery life and an excellent screen
In our benchmarks, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon G7 was particularly convincing in the battery life test. This is how the notebook runs, if you want to watch videos, almost 13 hours, and even in office mode it can take nine hours and 15 Show off minutes. This means that you can still do pending tasks on long-haul flights without having to charge the device. The very low weight of the device is also included in the excellent mobility rating.
The viewing angle stable IPS screen (Full HD with 1. 920 times 1. 080 pixel) shines with 368 Candela per square meter pleasantly bright. This is not a top value, but it works still perfectly fine. Since the display is matt and does not reflect, you can also use the notebook outdoors in bright sunshine and in bright rooms without having to expect any restrictions.
When Checkerboard contrast can the display with a measured value of 156: 1 fully convince. The coverage of the standard RGB color space is very good 97 percent, but it is not enough for good AdobeRGB coverage, here we only measure 72 percent. The Thinkpad X1 Carbon is not intended for image processing or HDR video editing tasks.
