Charlize Theron se queda fuera de la precuela de ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’

After the success of Mad Max: Fury Road , very soon we We asked if George Miller would make a new trilogy. The good news for fans of this quirky franchise is that the Australian director does indeed have plenty of plans for the new stage. In February of this year we learned that the filming of the new film would begin at the end of 2020. Of course, this was before the pandemic and, with it, all the consequences of it. In any case, the new film continues its course and, unlike what we had thought, it will not be a sequel, but a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road based on the character of Furiosa .

The surprising and endearing role played by Charlize Theron captivated locals and strangers in Mad Max: Fury Road , released in 2015. Of course, a prequel to Furiosa causes quite an expectation. However, it was officially revealed that Charlize Theron will not be returning to her role. Instead they will sign a new actress who will play Furiosa in a time before the one we saw in Mad Max: Fury Road .

Mad Max: Fury Road without Charlize Theron

George Miller explained that at first he thought of using CGI technology to “rejuvenate” Charlize Theron, but later decided that it was better to find a new actress to play a furious young lady. According to Miller:

For a long time I thought that we could use CGI in Charlize, but I think we are not close to that yet. Despite the great efforts in 'The Irishman' there is still something strange about the result.

Miller refers, of course, to the recent Martin Scorsese movie for Netflix, The Irishman , where CGI was used to present their characters in younger versions. However, as Miller himself points out, the result is somewhat strange on screen. The English term used by Miller himself was uncanny valley , translated “the haunting valley “or” haunting valley theory “. It is a theory from the field of robotics that explains that fine line between empathy and rejection when human appearance is imitated.

So, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road is still in development although, as we saw, without Charlize Theron . We will be attentive to know who will be the new actress who gives life to Furiosa, as well as the details of this expected feature film.
