Ogema Total Learning and Childcare Inc opened its doors in November 2008, thanks to the forward thinking of a number of volunteers. They foresaw a need and worked countless hours to see their dream become a reality. Thank you to the past and current TLC board members for their dedication in keeping this dream alive and succeeding. The Ogema community is very fortunate to have such quality childcare available under the direction of Dianne Cleverley; Cindy Horner; Redelina Leal; Fe delaCruz; Regine Bulagog; Tricia Klippenstine and Emory Pingert. The Ogema TLC is operating with full capacity of 25 children in attendance on a daily basis.
The weather gave the volunteers the summer they needed to work on this project, they have been very patient. This fine weather has given the volunteers the opportunity to do their best in the space provided for the playground. Numerous donations of time and items have made this such a creative environment for the children. There is chalk board flowers; Plexiglas paintings; a little log cabin; bikes and trikes; a long sandbox and a beautiful gazebo. There are planters full of soil ready for the planting of next year’s vegetable and flower gardens. The playground is enclosed in a chain link fence with green inserts for privacy. These are all possible due to the vision of Dianne Cleverley and Kara Leonard-Schmidt.
This project was made possible when three years ago this community said good-bye to a lovely, fun loving and energetic lady, Faye Bell. Donations were given in her memory to the day-care towards the purchase of the gazebo. This community because of Faye Bell loves a little harder, lives a little bigger and laughs a little louder.
The family of the late Faye Bell, Brett and Amber Heath, were present for the grand-opening with Amber doing the honor of cutting the red ribbon to officially open the playground.
Randi McKerricher invited everyone present to tour the centre and to help themselves to a light supper with refreshments. The TLC board members are Randi McKerricher (chair), Michelle Myren (vice chair), and Kara Leonard-Schmidt (secretary). Kassie McCabe, Carey Metheral and Dawn Mellon also serve on the board. The staff served up hot dogs, watermelon, cake and ice cream sandwiches along with juice and coffee.
