teenager Ethan Ampadu has been spotted in Leipzig as he edgers closer to joining the Bundesliga club on a season-long loan.
The 18-year-old has been left out of Chelsea's pre-season trip to Japan
in a bid for him to finalise his loan move for the forthcoming season.
According to reports on Friday a move to Germany
looked to be on the cards for the Welsh international with RB Leipzig keen to acquire him for the upcoming campaign.
It seems he is edging closer to joining Julian Nagelsmann's side as he was spotted in the German city on Saturday. He posed for a picture with a fan, who posted the picture on Twitter, before the lucky supporter grabbed another of him crossing the road.
The Bundesliga has become a popular destination for Europe's top young players following the success of Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund and Reiss Nelson at Hoffenheim last season.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen for Ampadu to go out on loan and get regular minutes in a bid to edge closer to the first team.
Lampard confirmed this week that he tried to bring Ampadu to Derby County last season and he believes the Wales international will benefit from regular first-team matches.
'I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so I'm a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture and the interests of Ethan and of Chelsea,' Lampard said.
'The idea that he could play a lot of games somewhere is good for him and we haven't brought him here while that is up in the air.'
Ampadu was given fleeting opportunities to show off his skills last season under Italian boss Maurizio Sarri.
The teenager made just five appearances in the first team but all came in cup competitions and he didn't feature at all in the Premier League.
He has also been linked with a loan switch to Aston Villa this summer, where he would team up with Lampard's old team-mate and Chelsea legend John Terry.
