Pangman -
Pangman, Saskatchewan - August 24, 2009 - Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and to the Minister of Labour, and the Honourable Dustin Duncan, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Weyburn-Big Muddy and Minister of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport, announced today that the governments of Canada and Saskatchewan have set aside $577,066 in funding to support $865,600 in upgrades to the water treatment plant in Pangman.
"I am happy to see that we have cut red tape to speed up infrastructure projects and to put people to work now," said Komarnicki. "This is a great example of federal-provincial cooperation at the local level where important local projects are approved in time for this construction season. This project will not only benefit the Village of Pangman now and into the future but will boost our local and regional economy for years to come."
"Infrastructure projects like the one in Pangman are vital for the continued growth of Saskatchewan communities," said Minister Duncan. "I am pleased to see the cooperation of the federal and provincial governments, and our municipal partners, in seeing these financial commitments to projects through the Building Canada Fund."
"There is not a lot of money in our small towns," said Rodney Rowland, Mayor of the Village of Pangman. "When we can get federal-provincial grants to help us foresee our goals, it makes projects like this possible, otherwise they wouldn't happen."
The federal and provincial governments are accelerating infrastructure spending across Saskatchewan providing funding to provincial and municipal construction-ready projects.
Under its Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada is allocating $12 billion to infrastructure projects across the country. This is further complemented by an earlier commitment of $33 billion to infrastructure.
Canada and Saskatchewan are working together to create jobs and boost the economy, while making significant investments that help communities improve their infrastructure. Both governments have agreed to work together to ensure that these funds are delivered quickly and efficiently.
