HALF WAY

SE Saskatchewan -

The first half of the Oxbow Atom Huskies season has been very successful. They worked hard and were able to stay undefeated at the Christmas break.
The team entered a tournament in Minot Dec. 13, 14 & 15. It was a very good experience as they played teams from Minot that were 11-under. It was very competitive and unfortunately the Huskies were unable to get a win during the tournament.
The kids had a bet with their assistant coach that if they were still undefeated in league play at Christmas, he would shave his head. On Dec. 20th the Huskies played Carnduff who is a very tough team and rivals of Oxbow. They gave everyone their money's worth for the last game of "2009", Oxbow winning 7 - 6. Team members helped Kaitlyn Sedor shave Ian Scott's head after the game. Each player took a turn with one snip of the scissors and then Kaitlyn completed the hair cut. Ian was a very good sport and the kids were so excited to see their bet become a reality.
Since the new year the team has not had the same success. They are 1-3-1 in the last 5 games. I'm sure they will pick up their play and get prepared for play-offs. Callum Spearing and Derek King take turns between the pipes and both have been strong contenders. Home games for the rest of the season are Jan. 30 and Feb. 13 @ 2pm. The Atoms then start playoffs mid Feb. Come out and help cheer the team on to Victory!
