Last week's front page of the Triangle News showed the beaming faces of Ron and Patti Mamer of Coronach holding their $88,862.00 winning ticket in the Lotto Max.
After confirming their winning ticket at Ager's Variety in Coronach, the couple set out to Saskatoon to collect their winnings.
As of press time, Thursday, January 21 Western Canada Lottery Corporation had not paid out the winnings to the ticket holder, Patti.
Ron, who has had a long week waiting to hear when the winnings will be released, explained the hang up. "Western Canada Lotteries hasn't released a cheque yet because of me doing the group lottery so they just want to investigate to make sure that it was not a group ticket."
Ron manages a group of friends and co-workers that buy tickets together. The group had tickets for the draw that Patti's winning ticket was a part of. According to Mamers, this ticket was bought by Patti, separate from the group tickets.
Ron presented the lottery corp the photocopies of the group tickets that were purchased for that draw to aid in the investigation. "I gave the lottery corp the photocopies that I hang at the mine to prove that the winning tickets wasn't part of the group tickets."
According to Ron, the lottery corp has told him not to worry, just to be patient and that they would get back to him.
Andrea Marantz from the Winnipeg office of Western Canada Lotteries said, "We have received the prize claim, it hasn't been paid yet and we are carefully reviewing the circumstances and as with any prize claim, we don't pay until we are certain that the right prize is being paid to the right person."
Marantz declined to elaborate on the security measures that are in place to aid in their investigation. "There are a lot of circumstances that we can investigate but I can't talk about those right now because they are part of the security measures."
