Pangman - Earlier this year you will recall a write-up about the Pangman Charity Farms project organized by Brian Jesse. With the help of local businesses who donated cash and supplies and some of the area farmers who donated time and machinery, a half section of land was seeded with Durum. The proceeds from this crop will be used towards building a stage for the auditorium and adding kitchen facilities at the Pangman School. This will not only be beneficial for the school but also for the whole community as the auditorium is used for a variety of functions within the town and surrounding area.
Harvest Day arrived on Sunday, September 12th and what a beautiful day it was. The weather was perfect, the crop was ready and men and machinery moved into the field, ready to combine and get the grain into the bins. Volunteers and machinery gathered in the yard of Ken and Joyce Kaufmann around 10 a.m. ready to go to work. The Kaufmann's had a morning lunch ready for the gang with sandwiches and coffee to get everyone fueled up to work.
Combines were supplied and operated by Lawrence Fellner, Mark Johnson, John Colbow and two by Brian Jesse. Daryl Lillejord drove Brian's second combine and Justin Colbow drove his father John's combine. There were three large trucks available to haul the grain from the field to the bins. Two of the trucks were supplied by Brian Jesse and the third was supplied by Stan Doughty. The trucks were driven by Ken Kaufmann, Elwood White and Mel Colbow. Assisting at the augers was John Colbow. After the harvesting was done the volunteers enjoyed a meal donated by the KFC in Weyburn with beverages supplied by Co-op Foods in Pangman.
The Pangman Charity Farms project wishes to express their appreciation to everyone who helped out with the project. Thanks to Ken and Joyce Kaufmann for the morning lunch, and use of their yard for the day. Special thanks to all who took the time from their own fields to provide machinery and help to harvest the crop. Thank you to the following for their contributions towards this project: Richardson Pioneer, E. Bourassa & Sons, Pangman Co-Op, Grainbelt Agencies, R.M. of Norton, Radius Credit Union, Ceylon Pulses, Weyburn Inland Terminal, Municipal Hail, Morris Industries and Bayer Crop Science and Weyburn Kentucky Fried Chicken. Without your help this project would not have been possible.
